This is a poem I wrote earlier this year:
**********************
Out of Place
by Michele Furnaros
With the room doused
in crimson attire,
all eyes glared at her.
Out of place,
she stood with her gaze
downwards,
trying to deflect
the attention. Feeling
like a wretched
piece of art
centered amongst glaring
eyes, she desired
to fly away
but froze.
Insecure, inferior,
and inadequate,
she couldn’t perceive what
they observed.
Her brilliant, royal
tones appeared striking
against the sea
of merlot.
They gazed at her
not out of malice
but…
for her unique
beauty.
